Stokes celebrates animatedly after getting rid of Kohli

England all-rounder Ben Stokes might not have bowled many overs in the first Test against India in Chennai. However, he made his presence count when it mattered the most. The 29-year-old all-rounder hogged the limelight when he played a crucial knock in the first innings.

He scored a sensational 82 with the help of 10 fours and 3 cracking sixes. He bowled just 6 overs in the first innings where he did not pick up a wicket. However, he picked up the prized wicket of Indian captain Virat Kohli in the second innings.

The all-rounder came up with a superb delivery as it went quite low to Kohli’s bat. However, the skipper failed to connect the ball as it went on to hit the stumps. Kohli departed after scoring 72 runs including 9 fours.

Earlier, Shubman Gill scored a stellar half-century but he fell prey to James Anderson’s bowling. After his departure, only Kohli managed to live up to the expectations. However, he could not last long during the run-chase as he was dismissed by Stokes.

After Stokes took Kohli’s wicket, he celebrated in an animated manner. Perhaps, this has re-ignited the rivalry between the duo and it will be quite interesting to see how Kohli would respond to him in the second Test match in the same venue.

England bowlers took all the wickets and won the game by 227 runs. The visitors took a 1-0 lead in the series. Meanwhile, Kohli lost his last four Tests in a row for the first time as Indian captain. Kohli guaranteed that they will give absolutely everything in the next three Tests.

“We don’t want to take anything away from England with the way they played. No excuses. We are a side that accepts our failures and faults and learns from them. One thing is for sure that in the next three matches we are going to give a tough fight and not let things slip away like it did in this Test. We have to start off with good body language and put pressure on the opposition.

Understand fields, the pace of the pitch and what the bowlers are doing, all those kind of things will be crucial. In the end, it is the mindset and we are trying to get that back. We know how to bounce back and will give our best effort in the next game. He’s (Pant) a guy who likes to have fun on the field and we want him to continue doing that. He keeps the boys entertained as well and his personality is helpful,” Kohli said at the post-match presentation.
