South Africa confirm first Pakistan tour since 2007

South Africa will tour Pakistan for the first time in nearly 14 years to play a Test and a T20I series.

The tour includes two Test matches as part of World Test Championship. The first one, in Karachi, will begin on January 26. Rawalpindi will host the second Test from February 4.

The three T20Is will be held in Lahore on February 11, 13 and 14.

“South Africa will arrive in Karachi on 16 January and will play the first Test at the National Stadium in Karachi from 26-30 January,” an official release from the Pakistan Cricket Board said.

“They will then travel to Rawalpindi where the second Test will be held from 4-8 February. The iconic Gaddafi Stadium, headquarters of Pakistan cricket, will be the venue of the three T20Is, which are scheduled for 11, 13 and 14 February.

“Upon arrival in Karachi and in the lead up to the first Test, South Africa will observe an isolation period following which they will hold training sessions and play intra-squad practice matches.”

Since the return of international cricket in Pakistan, South Africa will be the fourth men’s international team to tour the country. Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have been there in the past 12 months.

CSA (Cricket South Africa) is under the pump as the home series against England ruined the occasion of post-pandemic cricket due to COVID-19 outbreak in middle of the series despite being in the bio-bubble. England decided to pull out of the tour after playing the T20I series, which leaves the ODIs (part of World Cup Super League) postponed.

Last time South Africa toured Pakistan, the visitors took the Test and the ODI series home by 1-0 and 3-2.
