Shakib out of Dhaka Test, doubtful for NZ tour

Thigh injury has ruled Shakib Al Hasan out of field for at least three-four weeks. He will miss the second Test in Dhaka.

Shakib did not take any further part after day two during the first Test in Chattogram. He left the field after the 17th over of West Indies innings in thr afternoon. Later MRI scan showed he sustained an injury on his left thigh.

The all-rounder’s participation in the first Test was uncertain after the groin injury which he was suffering from the third ODI. Even though he was not 100% fit, Shakib was cleared to play.

Shakib batted 150 balls for his 68 in Bangladesh’s first innings where he looked uncomfortable in running between the wickets.

“Unfortunate. But injury happens. He is out for three to four weeks. He’s very unlikely [for New Zealand tour],” selector Habibul Bashar told BDCricTime.

With 0-1 behind, Bangladesh will look to level the series as well as earn Test championship points in the second Test that starts on February 11. Shakib’s absence is unlikely to make changes in Bangladesh’s squad.

“The squad was of 18 members. Now it’s 17. I don’t think anyone will be called,” Bashar said.
