At 18 years and 206 days, Kurtis Patterson became the youngest batsman to score a century in Sheffield Shield history when he hammered 157 for the Blues against Western Australia in 2011. Having hit his 16th boundary to reach the milestone, the left-hander smashed his last 55 runs off just 25 balls in a dramatic debut at the SCG. A series of injuries meant that fans didn’t see much of Patterson over the next couple of summers. However, he has now entrenched himself in the Blues top order when the Test players are away and finished the 2015-16 season as the Blues leading Sheffield Shield run-scorer. Patterson scored 737 runs in nine matches at an average of 52.64. This included two centuries, the first of which helped NSW hang on for a draw against Western Australia in Perth. The second, just a couple of weeks later, was against Tasmania at Blundstone Arena with this triple figure score setting up an important win for the team.
