Muktar Ali clears confusion, set to play in T10 League

All-rounder Muktar Ali is the third Bangladeshi member in Maratha Arabians squad for upcoming Abu Dhabi T10 League in January-February 2021.

The players’ draft took place on Wednesday, when at least five Bangladeshi players were confirmed a deal with T10 teams. A confusion raised when the organisers showed the flag of United Arab Emirates instead of Bangladesh’s when Muktar was picked from category C by Maratha Arabians.

On Thursday, ‘excited’ Muktar cleared the confusion by confirming BDCricTime that it was actually him whom Shoaib Malik’s team signed.

“This is the first time I have got a chance in franchise cricket. It feels great. I have been playing well in BPL for the last few years. This time there were no overseas players, so I could introduce myself better in Bangabandhu T20 Cup. The feeling is exciting,” Muktar told BDCricTime.

Muktar will join his Bangladesh teammates Mosaddek Hossain and Taskin Ahmed. The squad includes icon Malik and Mohammad Hafeez from Pakistan. Englishman Laurie Evans will be a key player to watch, while 49-year-old Indian leg-spinner Pravin Tambe will share his experience.

Maratha Arabians were the champions in the last edition that took place in late 2019.

Afif Hossain and Mahedi Hasan will take field for Bangla Tigers, a team representing Bangladesh. Nasir Hossain has been picked by Pune Devils.

Maratha Arabians: Shoaib Malik (icon, captain), Mosaddek Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Muktar Ali, Laurie Evans, Amjad Gul, Mohammad Hafeez, Sompal Kami, Ishan Malhorta, Maroof Merchant, Syed Shah, Abdul Shakoor, Pravin Tambe
