Barishal swallowed a fifth loss in the tournament after their middle-order failed to deliver in a must-win game against Chattogram, who rested the likes of Liton Das and Mustafizur Rahman.

However, it was Soumya Sarkar who took Chattogram over the line, chasing 150 with 18.4 overs. Soumya scored his first half-century in the tournament – 62 runs off 37 balls, including 7 fours and 3 sixes. He put on a stand of 79 runs with his new opening partner Shykat Ali, who departed scoring 39 off 33.

Skipper Mohammad Mithun once again failed with the bat as he made just 3 runs. Mahmudul Hasan Joy (31* off 27) and Mosaddek Hossain (12* off 11) confirmed a comfortable victory.

Barishal had a solid start after being put into bat. Saif Hassan and his captain Tamim Iqbal paired for 87 runs in 10.5 overs. Mosaddek sent both the openers back to the pavilion, halting the flow of runs. Sanjit Saha and Ziaur Rahman also chipped in with a couple of wickets each.

Saif was trapped lbw after playing a good-looking knock of 46 runs from 33 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Tamim, who was dropped on two occasions, made 39-ball 43. The hero of the previous match, Parvez Hossain Emon, made 14 in this encounter.

Afif Hossain’s 16-ball 28* gave Barishal a fighting total of 149/6 which proved well short of the expected total, given the start Barishal made.

Chattogram are on top of the tree with 12 points. Barishal and Rajshahi are sitting on four points each.
