CHANDIGARH: Legendary athlete Milkha Singh, who had tested positive for Covid-19, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Fortis Hospital in Mohali on Monday after his oxygen level started dipping from Sunday night. The 90-year-old had had tested positive for Covid on Wednesday and since then had home quarantined himself at his Sector-8 residence in Chandigarh.
“From Sunday night he was suffering from diarrhoea and his Oxygen levels dropped. It could be the side effects of medicines which he has been prescribed after testing positive for Covid. He is currently being treated by the head of Fortis Mohali, and the doctors are saying that he is responding well. He is stable now,” Singh’s wife and former India volleyball captain Nirmal Kaur told TOI.
“Sardar ji was weak as he had stopped consuming anything since Sunday morning, so we thought of hospitalising him. We need the nation’s prayers for his speedy recovery, he is a strong man,” Kaur added. “This is the first time I have seen him weak. But he is mentally strong and has the willpower to bounce back,” she further said.
Milkha’s son and legendary golfer Jeev Milkha Singh said that the decision to shift to the hospital was a precautionary measure. “He is a strong man, always positive and will recover soon.”
