Jaffna Stallions crowned as LPL 2020 champions

Jaffna Stallions led by Thisara Perera crowned as the champions of the inaugural edition of Lanka Premier League.

Sri Lanka Cricket Board managed to conduct the inaugural edition of Lanka Premier League successfully amidst the ongoing COVID-19 second wave in the country. After facing lot of challenges and barriers, the tournament has been concluded on a positive note for the organisers.

As planned all the matches were played in Hambantota with serious health protocols. At the end of league stage, Kandy Tuskers failed to find themselves in the knockout stage. Following the semi-final games, Jaffna Stallions and Galle Gladiators made it to the final of the inaugural edition of Lanka Premier League.

In the final game, Jaffna Stallions batted first and posted 188 runs for the loss of six wickets. Shoaib Malik topped the batting chart with 46 runs and the skipper Thisara Perera played a cameo of 39 runs in the end. For Galle Gladiators Dananjaya Lakshan picked up three wickets.

In reply, Galle Gladiators had a poor chase and managed to score only 135 runs for the loss of nine wickets. The skipper Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 40 runs amidst his side injury. With the ball, Shoaib Malik and Usman Shinwari picked up two wickets each. In the end, Jaffna Stallions won the game by 53 runs and became the champions of the inaugural edition of Lanka Premier League.
