Harbhajan reveals why he didn’t play for CSK in IPL 2020

Veteran Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh was last seen in Indian colours during the T20I match against the United Arab Emirates back in 2016. Since then, he has been out of the team set up. Ever since the arrival of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, he lost his place.

However, the Turbanator has been playing franchise cricket to get connected with the sport he truly loves the most. The off-spinner raised a lot of eyebrows when he didn’t take part in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League at the UAE.

Even Chennai Super Kings removed Harbhajan’s name from its official website. As months passed, the yellow army released him ahead of the upcoming auction. Surprisingly, the 40-year-old made up his mind to include himself in the list of cricketers who will go under the hammer in IPL auction 2021.

The mini-auction will be staged in Chennai on February 18. The veteran off-spinner set his base price at INR 2 crore and it will be interesting to see which team will pick him in the auction.

In a recent interaction with Cricbuzz, the Punjab spinner disclosed why he didn’t turn up for the 13th edition of the IPL. He disclosed that owing to the coronavirus pandemic he felt he needed to be with his family members. He also felt that skipping the cash-rich IPL was the right decision.

The cricketer also revealed that he is getting prepared for the upcoming season. “I am looking forward to the IPL, I am preparing hard for it. Even last year, I was keen on playing but because of the pandemic, I could not. I needed to be around my family. At that stage I thought skipping IPL was the right decision,” he added.

Harbhajan also added that there is a lot of game left in him. He further echoed that he has worked extremely hard on his fitness. “There is a lot of cricket left in me, very much. Fitness-wise, I am quite fit, I worked hard on my fitness during the lockdown.

Unfortunately, I could not do anything (participate in the IPL). I am looking forward to being in the park again and doing what I can do best,” he added.
