Finch names three alternative openers to replace Warner

Australian skipper Aaron Finch revealed the possible replacements they can have for the left-handed opening batsman David Warner for the remaining series.

Australia off to a great start for their brand new summer. The Australian summer has started with the three-match ODI series between Australia and India. Australia clinched the ODI series with back to back wins in the first two ODIs held at Sydney Cricket Ground. The third and final ODI of the series will be played in Manuka Oval, Canberra.

Ahead of the third ODI and the upcoming T20I series, Australia are stuck with a major blow as David Warner will not be available for those games. The left-handed opening batsman got injured while fielding in the second ODI and was ruled out for the remaining limited-overs fixtures against India.

On the eve of the third ODI at Manuka Oval, Australian skipper Aaron Finch named three possible batsmen who can take the place of David Warner in the game. He named Alex Carey, Marnus Labuschagne, and Matthew Wade as the possible replacements. He also stated that they are looking to test the bench strength as they are already having an upper hand in the series.

“We have not picked a team yet, but we have got a few options. Whether we go Wadey in the side or Marnus comes up and opens the batting, Alex Carey has done a lot of it in the past. But the middle-order has been functioning really well over the last little while. That is the beauty of being two-nil up in the series, you can look to experiment if you want to do that or you can look to play the safe option,” the Australian skipper quoted.

He also admitted that the unavailability of the Southpaw batsman will be a definite miss for Aussies. “He is an all-time great in one-day and T20 cricket, I do not think there are many better players to have played the game. So any team he is not a part of is going to be slightly weaker but we have got guys that can step and really contribute heavily in that role,” he added.
