Domingo to continues as Bangladesh head coach

There’s been some ongoing rumour for some days in Bangladesh cricket about head coach Russell Domingo that he’s set to lose his job because of the recent failure of the team. However, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Akram Khan has denied that rumour. The board wants to give Domingo a little more time, he said.

Domingo came to Bangladesh in 2019 to coach the High Performance Unit. However, the board was happy with his plan at that time and they appointed the South African coach as the head coach of the national team, a post that was urgently needed at the time.

However, the expectations that Domingo was given were clearly not met. BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon himself expressed dissatisfaction with the mismanagement of the team’s various decisions. However, the board want to test Domingo in some more series.

Akram Khan, chairman of the board’s cricket operations committee, claimed that news about Domingo losing his job was just rumors. “These things are more in the media. After the arrival of the coach, I also talked to the Hon. Board President. Nothing like that. As we have said before, we will evaluate after four series. You have to consider this,” he said.

“It must be admitted why we played bad, not because we played bad for the coach. Everything has to be evaluated. We couldn’t even give him our full strength team. A lot of times the team selection wasn’t right, we didn’t get the wickets we wanted – mistakes were everywhere. There is no point in blaming someone. We are looking and thinking about how to solve it,” added Akram.

In August 2019, Domingo took over the head coach position of Bangladesh on a two-year contract. As such, his contract will expire next August.
