Chopra names perfect replacement for Kohli in Test matches against Australia

Indian captain Virat Kohli was earlier criticised for his poor captaincy as his team lost to Australia in the ODI series by 2-1. However, Indian players silenced the critics by winning the T20I series. The Men in Blue won the first two games and took a 2-0 lead in the series.

Meanwhile, the ones who slammed Kohli have now praised him for his shrewd captaincy. Even without the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma, India won the second T20I by 6 wickets at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Hardik Pandya was named the man of the match for his 42 off 22 balls.

The third and final T20I is scheduled to be played at the SCG on December 8, Tuesday. After the conclusion of T20I series, both teams will play four-match Test series. After the first Test at Adelaide Oval, Virat Kohli will fly to India to be with his wife Anushka Sharma.

Kohli has been granted a paternity leave by the BCCI. The power couple are expecting the birth of their first child in early January. India will play the next three Tests without the run-machine. Kohli’s deputy Ajinkya Rahane is expected to lead the team from the front.

The first Test will be played on December 17. Meanwhile, cricket expert Aakash Chopra has named the perfect replacement for Kohli for the last three Test matches. The cricket analyst firmly believes that Shubman Gill or Lokesh Rahul can be an appropriate replacement for the Indian captain.

“Kohli will leave after the first Test and who will replace him? But there is a slight catch – about who will be opening in the first Test match, whether it will be Prithvi Shaw or KL Rahul will get his chance there itself,” said former Indian opener in his recent YouTube video.

Aakash picked Gill ahead of Lokesh Rahul as he feels that the young Shubman would be a better option in the middle-order department. “If you are looking to bat someone in the middle order, I feel Shubman Gill should get the nod ahead of KL Rahul,” he added.
